BFF 2012 - Manborg

This film is hilariously entertaining, bad taste at it's best. It's very obvious that the director's taste in bad 80s action cliches is evident in this film, and it doesn't take itself seriously. This mixed with a dry humour, makes this film a must see. For what it's designed to be, the special visual effects and make-up effects are amazingly creative. I recommend viewing this film for sure.

BFF 2012 - Ghosts With Shit Jobs

Ghosts with Shit Jobs Trailer June 2011 from Tate Young on Vimeo.

This film is as amazing as it's title. Created on a budget of only $5000, this film is a great example of unique creativity and thinking outside the box. It's minimalist sound design does a great job of creating a humorous dystopian future. If you get the chance to see it, it's worth a look.

Damage

My good friend Kris Smith has produced and directed an excellent short film entitled 'Damage', a love triangle story set in 1965 between a photographer, his vulnerable model and her hard working fiancé. I witnessed a couple of days of the production process, and saw the enormous amount of hard work Kris and the cast & crew put in to make this film possible. Was very impressed watching the film at the premiere screening in Norwich. Well done Kris.
Also includes at the beginning a title sequence/trailer for his new upcoming film 'I'm Still Here'.

Please watch the film and rate it on IMDB.

TEDx Youth @ Bath

Attended the TEDx talk at Komedia today and witnessed some very inspirational keynote speakers, and learned a lot. After today, I'm inspired to take control and shape my future. I've already started writing a new short live action film, but after today, I have definitely decided to see that I produce the film and get it into film festivals. All I got to do now is find other filmmakers interested in collaborating with me in Bath, Somerset and purchase sound recording equipment. Excited about starting another film production.

BFF 2012 - Keyhole

I don't know where to start. Well watching this film, I was never bored and my attention never drifted from the film or the story. I would use the marmite metaphor for describing this film, when you see it you'll either love it or hate it. It was easy to follow the core of the story, and the simplicity of characters with goals. However it was difficult to pin down the structure and aesthetics of 'Keyhole's world and characters. But I did enjoy the visuals of this film. I would describe it as a psychedelic noir, about family, love and ghosts. Not for everyone but I really enjoyed it.

BFF 2012 - Up There

Just seen 'Up There', an entertaining dark comedy. If you have a sense of humour about death, then this is a film that's worth a view. Also got the chance to ask actor Burn Gorman a question about the production process during the video Q&A, which was awesome.

Young Film Academy

One Day Film School promo from YFA on Vimeo.

I got the chance to do some work experience in London for Young Film Academy. YFA visits schools all across the UK, providing events and courses that gets school kids interested in filmmaking. The most popular being the 'one day film school', a one day event where kids get to learn about the process of filmmaking and get to make a short film, followed by an Oscar's award ceremony for the winning film. I recommend this company and programme to any teachers and schools, it's both educational and great fun for the students.

Sitting by Nellie: Presented by Joan Brown

So now that I have graduated from university, I am working hard to start my career in media and video production.

So what have I done so far?
Well this post is about my first video production job, which I literally started the day after my graduation, entitled 'Sitting by Nellie: Presented by Joan Brown'. It's a how to fashion film that shows the process of creating a female jacket using Couturing methods.

The hard thing about this production was that I was covering all bases from production to post-production. All visual and sound footage was captured by me on a Canon 550D MarkII and a Zoom H4N. It took 4 days to film and 6 weeks to edit and produce the final DVDs. This educational DVD is archived at Norwich University College of the Arts for students to use if interested in Couturing a female jacket.
